The initial condition of this derelict house contained only the load-bearing stone walls that had suffered severe damage, and a beautiful arch separating a single space. The rest of the structural elements (wooden floors, roof, stairs) were completely destroyed.

The fact that the building was a historic monument (built end of the 18th century) decisively determined the direction of our design. The owners were fascinated by the mixed references of Ottoman and Cretan architecture, and their desire was that  the final outcome was to be the most accurate and responsible restoration of the building. The project was a good study of the Cretan vernacular architecture and a good reference for future similar projects.
